EMF PAINT REVIEWS

TRUTH, WISDOM AND SERVICE

What is EMF paint, and which one do you need?

EMF shielding paint is a conductive coating — based on carbon and graphite — that blocks high-frequency radiation (WiFi, 5G, mobile signals, cell towers) when applied to walls or ceilings. Once earthed, it also shields low-frequency electric fields from household wiring. We stock the full range from YSHIELD®, the market-leading shielding paint manufacturer, TÜV-SÜD monitored for quality and safety. It’s one of the most effective ways to shield a room or building, and doesn’t require ripping out plaster or rewiring — it goes on like a primer coat, under your normal decorative paint. It’s also commonly used in bathrooms — either at home, to encourage a phone-free space for family digital wellbeing, or in gyms, schools, and workplaces enforcing no-phone policies in private spaces.

Choosing between YSHIELD HSF54 and DRY54

HSF54 is YSHIELD’s standard, ready-to-use liquid paint — the best all-rounder for most homes and projects. DRY54 is the same shielding technology in powder form, mixed with water yourself — it works out more cost-effective per litre, at the cost of a bit more prep.

Grounding your paint

Because shielding paint is electrically conductive, it must be earthed to work — ungrounded paint won’t shield low-frequency electric fields at all. We stock everything needed:

  • Complete Grounding Kits (UK / EU) — wall plate, grounding plug and cable in one kit, sized for your region’s wiring
  • GSX10 Grounding Tape — connects larger painted areas into your earth circuit, ideal for bigger rooms or multi-wall projects

For shops, offices, warehouses & secure facilities

This YSHIELD® paint is widely specified by contractors for commercial fit-outs — retail units near cell masts, server and comms rooms, and workspaces where staff or clients are electrosensitive. It’s also used as RFID blocking paint in security-conscious settings — server rooms, evidence storage, testing labs, and cash-handling areas — where blocking RFID signals matters as much as general EMF exposure. In retail environments, it’s used to contain RFID reader signals to a single zone — for example, painting the dividing wall between a stockroom and shop floor to prevent “cross-reads,” where a reader in one zone picks up tags through the wall from the other, causing inaccurate stock-location data. It applies the same way over plasterboard, block, or concrete as it does at home, and coverage scales predictably: at 8m² per litre, a 5L tin covers roughly 20m² per coat. FAQ

Does EMF shielding paint actually work?

Yes — the YSHIELD® paints we stock are independently tested and TÜV-SÜD monitored, using standard methods (ASTM D4935-10 / IEEE Std 299-2006). Real-world results depend on full, even coverage and — for low-frequency shielding — correct grounding.

What is EMF paint used for?

Blocking high-frequency radiation (WiFi routers, mobile signals, 5G, smart meters) and, once grounded, low-frequency electric fields — commonly used to shield bedrooms, home offices, and commercial spaces near masts or heavy wireless use.

What's the difference between HSF54 and DRY54?

HSF54 is ready-mixed liquid paint; DRY54 is a powder you mix with water yourself, at a lower cost per litre. Both use the same shielding technology.

Is this paint suitable for commercial or trade use?

Yes — it’s regularly specified for shops, offices, and warehouse fit-outs. Contact us for coverage calculations on larger projects.

Does this paint block RFID signals as well as WiFi and mobile signals?

Yes — the same conductive shielding that blocks WiFi, 5G, and mobile signals also blocks RFID. It’s commonly used as RFID blocking paint in server rooms, secure storage, and testing facilities, in addition to general EMF shielding applications.

Do I need an electrician to fit it?

You can apply the paint yourself, but grounding — required for low-frequency shielding — should be done by a qualified electrician.

Can I use this paint in a bathroom to block phone signal?

Yes — it’s commonly used exactly this way, whether at home to create a phone-free space for family wellbeing, or in gyms, schools, and workplaces enforcing no-phone policies in private spaces. It blocks connectivity (calls, data, WiFi).

Can this help with RFID interference between a stockroom and shop floor?

It can — a common challenge in RFID-based retail inventory systems is “cross-reads,” where a reader in one zone picks up tags through a dividing wall from the adjacent zone, causing inaccurate stock-location data. Shielding that wall helps contain each reader’s signal to its intended zone. However, for this type of application, an extra coat of paint may be required.
