Swiss Shield® Suspended EMF Shielding Canopy
Our original faraday-style bed canopy, and still the longest-running model in the Swiss Shield range. Rather than a self-supporting frame, this version suspends from the ceiling on a set of height-adjustable straps, giving a lighter, more open feel around the bed while still fully enclosing the sleeping area. Side slits let you get in and out during the night without having to untie anything. Setup takes roughly 20 minutes — the straps and fixings are all supplied, and a tape measure is the only thing you’ll need to find yourself.
Why Swiss Shield®
Every Swiss Shield® fabric is designed and woven in Switzerland specifically for use in the bedroom, where it’s marketed as environmental stress management fabric rather than a generic shielding material. The range is OEKO-TEX® certified and independently lab-tested for electromagnetic shielding, so you’re getting a textile that’s been checked twice over — once for how it performs, and once for what’s actually in it. That combination of verified performance and premium, durable construction is what sets it apart from lower-cost shielding fabrics on the market.
Choosing between Naturell and Ultima
This canopy is made up in either of Swiss Shield’s two flagship fabrics: Naturell or Ultima. Structurally they’re the same cotton-based, PES-coated cloth, and side by side you’d struggle to tell them apart — the difference comes down to weave density, with Ultima woven more tightly for a shielding boost. Neither fabric needs to be earthed or grounded to function, which isn’t true of every shielding material on the market.
What the shielding figures actually mean
Both fabrics are rated across the frequency bands used by everyday wireless devices — mobile networks, WiFi, and 5G WiFi included. As a rule, shielding is strongest at the lower end of the spectrum and tapers gradually as frequency climbs. In practice that looks like this: around 900MHz (radio) Naturell blocks roughly 37dB against Ultima’s 41dB; at 1800MHz (4G/5G mobile) it’s 35dB versus 38dB; at 2450MHz (3G/4G and WiFi) 34dB versus 36dB; and by 5800MHz (5G WiFi) the gap narrows to 27dB versus 28dB. Ultima stays ahead of Naturell at every point on the scale, though the margin closes as frequency rises.
Fitting it
You’ll need a ceiling sturdy enough to take the fixings and at a height that works for your room, since the whole canopy hangs from above. The straps are adjustable, and the canopy sits at a standard 2m (6.5ft) once installed, with room to add another metre of strap length if you need extra drop. If your ceiling isn’t up to it — low, awkward joists, or a rental where you can’t fix anything permanently — our steel-frame version does the same job without needing anything overhead at all.

Questions people ask
Will this work with any ceiling? It needs to be strong enough to anchor the straps into and high enough to give a workable drop. If that’s not the case in your room, take a look at our free-standing steel-frame canopy instead — it sets up around the bed with no ceiling fixings required.
How long does it take to put up? About 20 minutes from start to finish. Fixings are included; you’ll just need a tape measure to get the positioning right.
Can I make it taller? Yes. It hangs at 2m (6.5ft) by default, and the straps can be extended by another metre.
Which fabric is right for me? Both look and feel virtually identical, so it usually comes down to how much shielding you want — Ultima edges out Naturell across every frequency band tested.
Is the fabric independently tested? Yes — both fabrics carry OEKO-TEX® certification and have been assessed by an independent laboratory for EMF shielding performance.
