EMFields PF5 Pocket Meter for Low Electric and Magnetic Fields (preowned)

The EMF Pocket Meter EMFields PF5 is an electric and magnetic field EMF detector that measures frequencies in the range of 20 to 50000 Hz. It reads low-level magnetic fields in milligauss in a range of 0.2 – 20 and electric fields are measured in volts per meter ranging from 5 – 200.

The PF5 is a compact, accurate, and sensitive EMF meter that is practical to carry around and very easy to use.

Description

This EMF Pocket Meter measures low-level electric and magnetic EMFs from house wiring, home appliances, and office equipment. This EMF meter can also monitor other higher-frequency electric and magnetic fields emitted by induction cooking hobs, solar panels, compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs, and some LED lights.

The PF5 is an easy-to-use EMF monitor, it uses colour-coded LED lights that correlate to determine the intensity of your exposure to electric or magnetic fields produced by electricity in your environment. It can detect sources between 20 Hz to 50 kHz.

The PF5 Power Pocket Frequencies Meter is ideal for testing a wide range of home appliances, residential power lines, power transformers, and electrical wiring, and it helps in identifying electrical errors. It does not measure magnets or RF fields like mobile phones or WiFi. The PF5 is single-axis, so it is necessary to rotate the meter to measure the field.

The size of the device is 1110 x 63 x 21 mm and it weighs 140g. It comes with a PP3 9V Alkaline battery that lasts up to 25 hours. It includes a pouch and a user manual.

The PF5 is manufactured by EMFields in the UK, known for accurate, high-quality home measurement instruments, with a two-year warranty.

The PF5, unlike most EMF meters, measures frequencies in the range from 20 Hz to well over 50 kHz. This huge frequency bandwidth enables the PF5 to also measure EMFs from higher-frequency electric and magnetic fields emitted by induction cooking hobs, solar panel inverters, ‘energy-saving’ compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps and some LED lights. These electric fields can cause headaches and eye problems, among other adverse health effects.

These new higher-frequency appliances are of concern since the currents they induce in your body are proportional to frequency. Induction hobs, in particular, induce some of the highest internal electric currents in your body in the VLF frequency range, which has been shown to significantly affect the nervous system, so it is advisable to limit your exposure to these VLF fields.

The Swedish National Energy Department issued an advisory warning that schools, playgrounds and daycare centres should not be sited near power lines and that children should not be subjected for long periods every day to AC (50-60 Hz) magnetic fields over 3.0 mG. The PF5 can accurately measure this. The PF5 measures magnetic field strength from 0.2 to 20.0 milliGauss (mG), and electric field strength from 5 to 200 V/m. Readout uses a column of LED lights.
